Turn Off All Breakers!

Turn Off All Breakers!
Remember be safe. Turn off AC breaker at the main house panel, and cut power at AC unit as well- usually a separate box outside. Take a photo of current capacitor, noting where exact wires will reattach to the new replacement breaker. Old cap will have same writing on connections. If your ac stopped suddenly, is old, and hums loudly- this should do the trick. This is not a difficult job overall, if you have common sense, confidence, and are somewhat handy. A contactor is at another level lots of safety, photos, and more general knowledge on electrical- photo right. I replaced both in the summer of 2021. I received quotes from $900 and up. Parts were under $30 on Amazon! Billing could easily go to $2K. Sad, but the going rate.

5.0 out of 5 stars Replaced myself and AC fan started working again
Reviewed in the United States on August 15, 2021
My Carrier AC fan stopped working. I knew if I called the AC repair person it would cost a few hundred $. I first went on YouTube and learned that likely it is the capacitor that needed to be replaced. I followed the instructions, opened the AC unit and ordered this replacement, installed it and now it works perfectly. Before you touch the AC unit make sure your circuit breaker for the fan is off.
