A New Oxygen Sensor Impacts Your Car!

A defective or sluggish oxygen sensor can cause a variety of issues, like decreased engine performance. Replacing a defective O2 sensor helps ensure your engine is constantly monitored and operating efficiently, while maximizing performance.

The ideal air-fuel ratio of a gasoline engine is 14.7 parts air to 1 part fuel, which is known as complete combustion. The vehicle's engine control unit uses an O2 sensor to regulate air-fuel mixture by checking the oxygen content in a vehicle’s exhaust. This results in fuel savings.

The catalytic converter is responsible for removing the harmful emissions from your vehicle’s exhaust. A defective oxygen sensor can cause your catalytic converter to fail prematurely. Replacing a catalytic converter can cost thousands of dollars, significantly more than most standard oxygen sensor replacements.

If complete combustion is not maintained, other chemical compounds can form in large amounts. These include greenhouse gases, carbon monoxide and excess hydrocarbons. Replacing a defective oxygen sensor is the most effective way to control the combustion process and reduce emissions.

From "low response" to "no response" upon replacement of my O2 Sensor. On a 2002 Buick Regal LS.

From "low response" to "no response" upon replacement of my O2 Sensor. On a 2002 Buick Regal LS.
To be fair, I was throwing parts at my car when I purchased this part. I had a DTC P0133 (slow upstream O2 Sensor response). I installed a new Bosche replacement part (for a 2nd time since the first resulted in success according to the car's diagnostics feature at that time). This time around was a different experience. My DTC went from P0133 to a P0134 ( slow O2 response to NO O2 response). I put the old sensor back in and now have a slow response vs NO response. Which would you prefer? Not all parts are created equally. Bosche is supposed to be a grade above generic. You decide.

1.0 out of 5 stars Different sensor than pictured
Reviewed in the United States on July 18, 2023
I bought this sensor back in June just to replace my sensor hoping to get better gas mileage. Just getting around to change in today first thing I notice didn’t look like the one pictured or the one I was replacing. But since I cut the wires on my sensor I had to use it. After about 5 minutes the check engine light came on code PO 134…HO2S circuit insufficient activity sensor 1. But because I waited pass the 30 days return I have to buy another one.
Update: order new brand of sensor code cleared.
