A New Oxygen Sensor Impacts Your Car!
|
|
|
|
---|---|---|---|
A defective or sluggish oxygen sensor can cause a variety of issues, like decreased engine performance. Replacing a defective O2 sensor helps ensure your engine is constantly monitored and operating efficiently, while maximizing performance. |
The ideal air-fuel ratio of a gasoline engine is 14.7 parts air to 1 part fuel, which is known as complete combustion. The vehicle's engine control unit uses an O2 sensor to regulate air-fuel mixture by checking the oxygen content in a vehicle’s exhaust. This results in fuel savings. |
The catalytic converter is responsible for removing the harmful emissions from your vehicle’s exhaust. A defective oxygen sensor can cause your catalytic converter to fail prematurely. Replacing a catalytic converter can cost thousands of dollars, significantly more than most standard oxygen sensor replacements. |
If complete combustion is not maintained, other chemical compounds can form in large amounts. These include greenhouse gases, carbon monoxide and excess hydrocarbons. Replacing a defective oxygen sensor is the most effective way to control the combustion process and reduce emissions. |
Product Description
Every Bosch Oxygen Sensor benefits from the technological and manufacturing experience gained from decades of production, since first inventing the Oxygen Sensor in the late 1960's, ensuring long-lasting, superior performance that you can count on. Bosch Oxygen Sensors are 100% tested for full functionality, resulting in a seared appearance of the protection tube, to ensure every Bosch manufactured sensor meets Bosch's rigorous standards for quality and performance. Exclusive double laser-welded stainless steel body is totally submersible and sealed tight to protect against damage from exhaust emissions — ensuring a longer sensor service life. Fast-acting heater optimizes sensor operation on Planar and 3, 4, and 5 wire Thimble type sensors allowing the oxygen sensor to reach its operating temperature quicker – within seconds – for optimum performance. True Direct-fit OE connectors and harnesses, along with threads pre-coated with anti-seize compound right out of the box, make installation simple and hassle-free. It’s critical that oxygen sensors are replaced at the suggested intervals provided by vehicle manufacturers before the sensor fails. Following the recommendations will prevent long term damage to a vehicle’s engine, reduce harmful carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and save money when refueling your vehicle.

Forget running the engine or heating with a blow torch: spray Liquid Wrench on the old one and go gather your sockets (deep and short); breaker bars or pipe; box wrenches; etc. Then spray more.
On my Ranger it was easiest to crawl under and behind the driver's front tire and use a crow's foot wrench to loosen the old sensor but to do that you should take off the transmission control cable bracket: safety brake on and block the tires!
This comes with thread compound on it, but no dielectric grease on the electric plug!
Stand on a milk crate and reach through the open hood (6 inches to the left of the oil filter) to do the swap and then back under to tighten everything.
The goal is simple but swinging a wrench inside that area is hard.
The other upstream sensor (for the Ranger at least) is harder to do. That one is on the passenger side (you can turn the wheels all the way over and put your head between the passenger front wheel and look in the triangular hole between the body and frame: it's right there, but you can't put a wrench in that hole. That sensor has a different last number and THE CABLE IS WAY LONGER. That sensor is for a P1131 code (P1151 like this). That's bank 1.
There is also a downstream sensor which hasn't failed yet for me. I "heard" that the sensors are all the same but with different length cables. I don't know if that's true.
Depending on your vehicle the bank and side you install this on may be different.
By the way I got my code (and cleared it) with an ODB2 reader that cost half of what this did.
Good luck,
Mike from Detroit
