Whatever your task at hand -- whether it's launching that boat before daybreak, setting up your camper before the rush or getting a final load to the dump before close -- CURT class 3 trailer hitches offer the strength needed for serious towing. They make it easy to hitch up and Bring It, offering a vehicle-specific fit and the weight capacity to handle a variety of trailers. Custom class 3 hitches are the most common type of receiver hitch for pickup trucks and SUVs. Because of their weight range, they are also found on full-size cars, crossovers and minivans. Each custom-fit class 3 hitch package is made for vehicle-specific mounting. This particular kit fits certain years of the Jeep Compass and Patriot (see application info to verify vehicle compatibility). It provides a weight carrying capacity of 4,000 lbs. GTW and 400 lbs. TW. CURT class 3 trailer hitches are typically used to attach and haul utility trailers, boat trailers, campers, snowmobile or ATV haulers and more (NOTE: Never exceed the lowest-rated towing component). Each class 3 hitch has a 2" receiver tube and is tested in accordance with SAE J684 for safety. To ensure that CURT class 3 receiver hitches have what it takes for serious trailering, they are designed using a hands-on approach and are constructed with rugged, high-strength steel and precise welding. The instructions and install right on queue. The install took about an hour and 20 minutes(break for a beer). Mechanic skills novice been turning wrenches since 13 but not know pro. I opted not to remove the bumper I just removed the 2 back exhausted rubber mounts(spray a lot WD-40 push out towards the side of vehicle). I let the muffler hang off the center exhaust mount near the converter. The Jeep that I have in CA. has a charcoal canister next to the heat shield(see pic 3)just remove the 2 nuts and slide the 2 rubber hoses out and let in hang.
The install was a lot quicker than it sounds you don't need any power tools, it took longer to torque down the 4 bolts than it did the set up. It definitely helps if you have someone that knows how to turn wrenches and brings over a 1/2 torque ratchet too help you hold it up underneath and holds down the nut side while you torque the bolt side to110lbs.
The holes under the Jeep in the frame are slotted so when installing the hitch make sure your helper and you push the hitch out to the rear so you won't have a tight fit. Or you be hear your muffler rubbing the the hitch frame. Like I did had to break loose the bolts to readjust the frame retorque down to 110lbs. that gave me a 3/8 clearance and stop the chaffing. (Hence the hour and 20 minute install).
Too bad the only thing this hitch will see is the back of a 4bike carrier. Ordered as a gift for my wife for Mother's Day received in 2 days. Definitely will be ordering again from this Co. Curt the roof rack looks tempting...........

I opted to install the CURT 56129 for my Jeep Compass also and it slotted in perfectly. Having the bumper off meant it was really easy to run the cables from each tail light across the car. Finally I also added in the Pro Series 63153 Rambler Hitch cargo and the ROLA 20174 light kit. The lights are great but I wish there was a neater way to run the cables along the frame. Because one light is on a much shorter cable than the other light it makes the wiring a little messy but its functional and cheap!
Overall this took a couple of hours to complete and I am really happy with the results!

Bought another one for my 2016 Jeep Patriot 75th Anniversary Edition. I will update this review if anything goes wrong, but overall I am happy with it.
It's built super strongly, which doesn't really matter as the Patriot cannot tow anyway. I use it for carrying my two eBikes, as well as using for a recovery point in the winter. I also used it recently to tow my Jeep onto a roll back tow truck. You know, just Jeep things..
