This worked great.I was concerned as we had a center horizontal weld in our tank but it gave accurate readings just 1/2 from that weld - picture attached (note the picture is turned sideways when it was loaded, didn't see a way to turn it back, this tank is vertical with a horizontal weld at the middle). You have to hold it it pressed in about 5-10 seconds for the light to come on strong, so give it a bit.Starting from the bottom and working our way up it showed propane vs not propane. We were not running any appliances in our RV that were using propane at the time we measured. We just got this and tested it only once, but we will update the review if things change over time.

I have tried them all. This is the best , quickest and most accurate device Yet to measure he propane level in any size tank. The temperature sensitive tape that you put on the side of the tanks is a real pain because you have to go get a jug of hot water and pour it over it and to make it work and then it's still a guess on reading its accuracy. Using level gauges on a propane tank as a real joke because it takes a pressurized and they're practically going to read full clear till the tank gets nearly empty and then suddenly it's going to show if it does not work like a liquid level control or a liquid level gauge because of the tank pressure therefore they are very inaccurate and unreliable. the Dometic gas Checker is so easy to use you just push it against the side of the tank if it shows a red ring light on it it's empty at that level you move down a little bit incrementally until you push on it and it's green and that's the level of fuel you have it is precisely accurate every time I've used it.

I purchased one of these years ago & it lasted very well. Finally the clips that hold the battery’s broke when I went to change them. Ordered a new Dometic Propane Level Detector and it was dead on arrival. Returned to Amazon and ordered another one. Received the second one & package was obviously opened & restarted, with a piece of tape on it too. This second one was also dead on arrival. Went to check batteries & a bunch of small parts fell out. This one getting returned as well. I will not purchase another. Get your act together, Dometic!

I used this while living in my camp trailer. I don't think my gages were working as well as I would have liked. I needed to know if I was getting low on propane during cold weather, and this was the perfect gadget. The instructions do mention that it has to be held at a 90 degree angle to the tank which seems easy enough, but is still a little tricky. It will give a bad reading if it's not at a 90 degree angle.

    This worked great.

I was concerned as we had a center horizontal weld in our tank but it gave accurate readings just 1/2 from that weld - picture attached (note the picture is turned sideways when it was loaded, didn't see a way to turn it back, this tank is vertical with a horizontal weld at the middle).

You have to hold it it pressed in about 5-10 seconds for the light to come on strong, so give it a bit.
Starting from the bottom and working our way up it showed propane vs not propane.
We were not running any appliances in our RV that were using propane at the time we measured.

We just got this and tested it only once, but we will update the review if things change over time.

Either the batteries provided are already drained when provided or the device slowly drains the battery since it was only used once to check that it works before the batteries had to be replaced.

The battery retainer clip does not have a good solder connection. After 1 battery replacement the clip has come off. This also only has a 30 day return policy. Do not recommend buying again.

This is by far, the best device to measure the propane on your tanks. We are full time RV-ers and had no way to know when we were close to being out of gas other than removing the tanks from the holding area which is a pain to disconnect them every time. We initially bought the magnetic measurement things and returned them after researching more. On YouTube we watched quite a few videos on this Dometic checker and this by far surpasses anything else out there. It's VERY accurate and easy to use with no guess work =) We HIGHLY RECOMMEND this Dometic Gas Checker; you will not be disappointed and worth the investment!!

This thing worked ok the first couple of times I used it. The tanks were dry on the outside and the weather was in the 50's and 60's. Now that its cold outside and the tanks stay wet with condensation it doesn't return a reading. I wipe down my tanks to get them as dry as possible before taking reading and I rarely get a good return whether it be red or green. My tanks are new so they aren't all rusty or dirty so there shouldn't be any problems getting a good reading. I don't feel this is worth the money I spent on it and definitely won't buy another one. I will wait until the weather warms up again and edit my review if it does better then.

I have three 100 lbs propane tanks and wanted this so that I could tell the level in each one. They have all been painted and all are similar except one thing. Two are clearly a different manufacturer as the weld is in the middle of the tank. The third has the weld about 9/10 of the way to the top. I don't know why there is a difference and I can't find the manufacturer name on any of the tanks.

The Gas Checker works perfect on the tank with the weld towards the top.

The Gas Checker does not work at all on the two tanks with the weld in the middle.

I checked it on my gas grill tank and it worked on that but that is not why I bought this item, I bought it for the 100 lbs. tanks.
