Update July 19th, 2017
This a/c unit is still going strong!! It has really worked out well the past couple of years. We have really enjoyed having this extra unit in our home and has worked so well. The addition of the 2nd intake hose has really made a huge difference in its efficiency, and kept the electric bill nice and low during the hot Texas summer months. We are having 100+ temps now, starting to go into August soon. Looking forward to having my little extra powerhouse to keep things cooled down. I've heard a lot of people say the quality isnt good, but so far I've had no issues at all with this one. Still looks as new as the day I unpacked it.

Because we had already replaced the central air once, at enormous expense, and it lasted less than 5 years, we decided to go a different route. We bought 6 or 7 in wall and window air conditioners, but the kitchen was a problem. We have plate glass windows, and there was no easy way to install a window or wall air conditioner. It is also a difficult room to cover as it opens onto 2 hallways and our back door. We had one tiny louvered window by the door and so decided to try a portable. This is our 4th in that room. The first, a 10,000 btu (also a Honeywell) did not make a dent in the humidity, and only lowered the temperature 1 or 2 degrees. We replaced it with a 12,000 btu Honeywell, which made it tolerable, if not comfortable. The next in that room was a DeLonghi, which worked pretty well, but after about 2 years started losing it's cool. It felt more like a fan and really was not doing what it needed to. These are expensive units to buy in multiples, and to replace every 2 years. I did a great deal of research before buying this unit. What it came down to was my husband pointing to the 12,000 btu Honeywell in the corner and saying, 'that was the best of the ones we have had in here'. We have probably had the "opportunity" to compare more air conditioners than just about everyone else , to include publications which test and rate. They are not living with them. This unit is also rated for pulling more than twice as much water out of the air. (We have a large dehumidifier in our small bedroom from which we dump about 20 gallons/ day, and that is limited by the capacity of the machine, one of the largest on the market.) The kitchen is larger, and then, there's the oven ;)
I ordered this from Amazon on Monday. and to my surprise it actually arrived on Thursday (that is overnight, to Hawaii). My husband set it up immediately. It did not take much as we already had the plate and hose set up from our old Honeywell, but I think he did swap out the hoses, as this one is larger. Long story short, this is far and away the best of the portable units we have tried. It removes a lot of moisture and actually covers the space. The old ones created a "cool zone" within the room but only lowered the ambient temperature a few degrees. This one did such a good job that we actually turned it off when we went to sleep (most of the others run 24/7/365, hence the short life span). The temperature was around 90 degrees yesterday, and it was pouring. Even at noon, with the sun (what there was of it) hitting that room it was cool. When I woke up, it was still reasonable in there, even though it had been off overnight.
We do not have water condensing on the unit, as we have with some of the others, and it seems to be doing a good job of controlling the humidity in that room. I can actually cook in there (rather than watch my husband try to grill in the rain).
The unit is nice enough looking but huge, even by comparison to the 12,000 btu unit it replaces. It is easy to use with both a remote and touch screen controls. It has modes for fan, air and dehumidify. When I accidentally changed the mode, brushing the screen as I changed the temperature setting, we could very quickly tell how well it was working. (on fan it became damp and pretty awful in minutes). I am very impressed. This is the first of the portables we have tried which compares to a window unit in terms of effectiveness. I hope it lasts more than 2 years, but they do get a work out here (I understand, the second wettest place on earth).
5 stars to ease of use and installation
5 stars for effectiveness
4 stars for efficiency (they are expensive to run but this one does the work of an ac and a dehumdifier)
4 stars for appearance (It is not unattractive but hardly blends into the decor. A very large unit, there is no not noticing that it is there.)
5 stars for value, at least purchased through Amazon
For us, this is nothing short of a life saver. I could not use my kitchen without it, and it is working better than the other 4 we have purchased over the years (one in another room)

Also it sounds loud for my taste. It's 70dB at a distance of 6m and 75dB at 1m distance. Not a pleasant sound to hear all day long.
Update: July 16, 2018, 1am
It’s 1am right now. This thing has been running for 2 hours now. Outside temperature:24’C, inside temperatures: 24’C. Can someone please tell me what this thing is doing while consuming my electricity? Either this unit is defective or this is a scam. The dehumidifier is also a joke. Doesn’t seem to do much.
So far this is the worst air conditioner I have ever bought. I will contact the support and update the review.
Update: July 16, 2018, 10:45am
Customer service is almost non-existent. I call Honeywell, wait on the line for 15 minutes. Nothing, I hang up. I then contact Honeywell via Chat and someone named "Shivam" answers, most probably in India. They passed me to another company that supposedly manufactures this AC and just sticks Honeywell brand on it. First contact they gave me was the wrong one (time wasted: 25 minutes). I call the second contact and wait another 10 minutes for someone to answer. They say they only support USA so they give me another number in Canada. I call the Canadian support company and I just get a voicemail and they ask me to leave a message! Total time wasted so far: One hour.
Update July 17, 2018
I was able to return the item to Amazon. Thank you Amazon for the great customer service.
Update July 27, 2018
The Canadian support centre affiliated with Honeywell never returned my call. I have no words!
I will NEVRY EVER buy anything that has Honeywell written on it again.
Got this for Montreal humid months. 3 in 1 function is not true. The dehumidifier doesnt have a control setting. You cannot set the humidity level. This machine works on its on wishes when its on dehumidifier mode. Switches on and off, god knows on what parameters. In a nutshell there is no humidostat if that whats called for humidity. I have a humidostat on my wall from honeywell itself and it doesnt seem to show a reduction in humidity levels. So this unit is 2 in 1 in reality. I might also return this because, I was looking for dehumidifier because in Montreal we have humid summers.
Bad part 2:
Honeywell should realize that we live in homes with horizontal sliding windows mostly. The kit they give is for vertical windows. So thats completely useless. So be prepared to spent more for a kit to install on your horizontal sliding window. You will have to buy extra covering or foam seal tapes for sure. I understand that Honeywell should sell off the parts that they have manufactured in bulk. But as consumer, be aware of this little "cutting the corner" from HoneyWell.
Good parts:
Now to the good parts. The machine is a beast and it cools a 650sq ft hands down. Note that you should use circulator fans for other rooms to get the cool air through, else it cools only the room that its in. Not a product problem that is.
So if you are looking for cooling. This is the machine. But not a dehumidifier. So in my opinion the price is a bit steep because the dehumidifier is not working as advertised and there is no controls for dehumidifier mode.
Things to keep in mind about this AC...
- It looks like a dual hose AC , it looks like it could be used as one , but it is not supposed to be used as one , the manufacturer will void the warranty if one uses it as dual hose AC.
- Because it is not a dual hose AC it will suck in air from everywhere in the apartment and blow it out which makes it less efficient than a real 2 hose AC .
- The remote control works in a very narrow angle and is a little odd to use. It is like they tried to replicate the user panel of the AC onto the remote control.
The window mounting bracket worked fine , it is adjustable to different window sizes.
One does not need to have a hose connected to the drip collector , it is closed by a plug and screw on plug retainer. depending on the humidity , one needs to empty the collector with a a flat dish/bowl.
