Nintendo Selects: Super Mario All Stars - Wii Game Details
A Celebration Collection
The games included in the Super Mario All-Stars are:
Super Mario Bros.: This is the game that started it all. It features now-iconic Mushroom Kingdom characters like Mario, Bowser, Princess Peach, Toad Goombas and Koopas. This game set the standard for all future platforming games.
Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels: Originally released in Japan as Super Mario Bros. 2, this game has only brief cameo appearances in the Western Hemisphere. Mario fans will appreciate the familiar look and feel of the game.
Super Mario Bros. 2: This time, Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach and Toad have little more than vegetables to defend themselves with. Each character has a unique set of abilities: Luigi can jump higher and farther, Toad can dig extremely fast and pull items out of the ground quicker, Princess Peach is the only one who can jump and hover temporarily and Mario has the most balanced skills.
Super Mario Bros. 3: This installment introduced new elements like the Tanooki Suit and Koopalings. Mario must battle new enemies, returning favorites and a new Koopaling in each unique and distinctive world on his way to ultimately taking on Bowser himself. Fly above the action using the Super Leaf, swim faster by donning the Frog Suit or defeat enemies using the Hammer Suit.

Anyway, his birthday is tomorrow, so he hasn't opened this yet. It's new, so I'm not expecting any problems. That's the extent of what I can tell you right now.
Once I figured that out I had so much fun reliving my childhood while playing the games.
The background is different than the 80s version of Super Mario Brothers. Very interesting, it was almost distracting. There were subtle differences but they were well received.
This is a great compilation containing four of Mario's greatest adventures, which include the first three Super Mario Bros. games and the Japanese version of Super Mario Bros. 2, called The Lost Levels here in the West.
I tried out all four games and they worked perfectly. The controls are precise, the environments and backgrounds are beautiful, and the remixed music is a treat to the ears. The game also allows players to use either a Wii Remote on its side, a Wii Classic Controller, or a Gamecube controller (for original Wii only) to best suit their play style.
All in all, I am very satisfied with this product and would highly recommend this to Mario fans, those who are looking to become introduced to Mario games, or to fans of old-school retro games in general. A wonderful buy through and through!

Even though you don't need a classic controller to play this game, I would highly recommend it as the basic Wii remote is just CRAP to play with on this particular game. Your frustration levels will ignite exponentially as I experienced (I ended up scouring the internet for the classic controller and was lucky to find one in pretty good condition refurbished). My 7yr old daughter and her friends made some attempts with this old classic game and found it incredibly challenging and the graphics abysmal. Go figure. =p
Anyone who miss the old days before the internet and social media, this one is definitely something to add to your collection of nostalgia.... <^.^>
works well; only thing was that it has a 'save' function available to select when you run out of lives but it actually doesn't save a darn thing. :( you still have to start over at the beginning of whatever world you were on depending on which game your playing. Other than that I enjoyed having access to pieces of this game that I previously hadn't played when I was young; the lost levels. Fun for a nostalgic moment but my kids couldn't hold their interest in this game for more than an hour. without the save ability they were frustrated that you had to go all the way back to the beginning since they are used to games these days with more options than that.
What's different? Not much. The graphics have been updated somewhat but the games are still the same. My cartridge version had a little trick where you could hit the select button while playing Mario 3 and shuffle between all the different costumes and essentially never die on a level. My cousins had the exact same game and the select trick didn't work for them so I have no idea if I was somehow special or what (too lazy to go Google) and it definitely isn't built into this one.
If you liked the original, go get this.
