Not one solid piece of metal, but that's okay because it's still close enough to 'full tang'.

Not one solid piece of metal, but that's okay because it's still close enough to 'full tang'.
I bought this knife because I like bushcraft knives, Heathen stuff, and boars in particular and the price point was low enough and the reviews close enough to good enough that it was worth taking a chance on, and overall I am not disappointed. I do want to clear something up a lot of people are not realising. This is NOT one piece of metal. However, this product is not misadvertised with that. It tells you on the specs that the blade is EN 45 carbon steel and the handle is aluminum, this tells you that it is not a solid piece of metal. However, this is not a bad thing. The knife still counts as full tang. I show in the pictures where I removed the leather wrapping (which along with other reviews, I agree is kind of put on crappily, not a problem for me, as I'll discuss) to see what the handle deal is. The carbon steel part still carries WAY far down into the handle, and then the boar head piece is overlapped with it and bolted on to it as well as any wooden handle on any well made full tang knife. Could it break off? Sure, but it is no more likely to do that than any other bushcraft knife that would cost you over a hundred dollars. So, it's not one solid piece of metal like other reviews say, but it is full tang and that's all you really need to be worried about at the end of the day. The blade itself is thick and the metal behaves really well as compared to many other good bushcraft knives I have. I've tested it out and it holds up very nicely to limb chopping and wood splitting with batoning. That said, mine in particular did NOT come sharp at all. In fact, it seemed to have never been honed down to any edge in the first place. I see a lot of disparity in the reviews about this, and my guess is they have several different workers in their shop at different skill levels. I had a buddy that knows what he's doing basically grind this thing down to an edge for me, and now the blade sings with sharpness that I could shave with. Point is, this blade will take an edge, and it will hold it fairly well too, but expect the possibility you will have to put that edge on yourself, or have it put on, with equipment more hefty than a whetstone. Note that the pictures above of the blade are after it was reground. There was more patina on it before that (and also the first picture has a brownish tint to the ground parts of the blade, that is not rust, it's the lighting somehow). I detected no rust on the blade as some did in other reviews, but what I'll say to them, get over it. It's high carbon steel, that happens. It's not a defect at all. Once this knife is in your possession, it is your responsibility to deal with that with oil now, so do it, and don't complain. As I said above, I didn't care much for the leather wrapping on this, and that, plus the not coming with an edge at all, are why I took off one star. But I don't mind doing a few things to a knife to customise to my wants and needs anyway, so I'm not really mad about the leather wrapping. When I buy a knife, I expect that there will be some things that are not going to be what I want, and I assume I'll be playing with it a little bit. If you aren't like that, then you might want to find a different knife as far as the handle wrapping and edge go. I wanted to take the leather off to see what the handle makeup (that I talked about already) was like anyway. My final picture shows where I re-wrapped the handle with some bankline (I forget size), which now feels WAY better than the leather did, and now I have 20ish feet of bankline to use if I need it, win win for me. I also think it looks good, if possibly not as traditional looking as the leather. I just wanted to share that to show a mod you might like to make to yours if you get this knife, which I think is worth buying, if you don't mind that it's a bit of a fixer upper.

4.0 out of 5 stars Previous great reviews based on Raven? Not Boar's head?
Reviewed in the United States on April 10, 2019
Not bad, not great. Definitely not as pictured. The casting details are poor at best. The grinding is mostly smooth, but not even. The blade is "working sharp". You're not going to shave with it though. Hopefully I will be able to put a better edge on it. I have some really doubts about the hand forged part too as the markings on the blade look somehow artificial. An expert I'm not, but I do own more than one piece which I watched being heated and hammered as it was built. They never looked like this knife. All that said, honestly, I would still probably give the knife itself 4 stars. It's not quite what I had hoped for based on previous reviews, but not bad. The sheath however is another matter. Excellent quality leather, poorly executed. As you can see from my pictures, the stitching runs completely off the side of the sheath. The one in the pictures appears to have a 3"+ belt loop. I will be lucky if mine will fit on a 1.5" belt. Also of note, no welt to protect the stitching and cheap white nylon thread. I contacted Norse Tradesman and was offere a refund. I don't want a refund. Just a better product. I would have been perfectly happy with a sheath like the one pictured. Mine is obviously not even close. I will keep the knife, with some time and work I will be able to make something useable from this. I shouldn't have to work on something I paid almost $50 for though.

Edit: The company has now contacted me an offered a partial refund. This is appreciated and I felt it should be noted here. As a result, I have raised my overall rating from 3 to 4 stars because I feel what I received vs what I paid for it are now more in line.

I love the look and design. The edge needed work, but it takes a helluva keen edge. Very comfortable in hand and for extended use, but I wish the leather sheath was welted as I worry about slicing the stitching each time i draw the knife, and that it wasn't glued so much, but I can admit that is merely preference and not a big deal. Overall, this is a pretty cool little knife, especially for those who like some old school aesthetics. Also, bonus bag is awesome.
