Product Description

The OXO Tot Tub Drain Stopper keeps water in the tub during bath-time. Soft, flexible silicone makes it safe for little fingers, and a suction cup secures the Stopper to the tub floor with a water-tight seal, keeping water (and toys) from escaping down the drain. When the Stopper is not in use, the suction cup is convenient for storing the Stopper on the wall.

a review is pretty much worthless without some sort of evidence
You know, a review is pretty much worthless without some sort of evidence. With that said, I love taking baths....good for the skin and easier to wash my toes. The problem is, my toe pop bathtub drain leaks. I did the obvious unscrewed it and checked the rubber gasket....ugh....pretty nasty after 16 years. Needless to say it was dry rotted so I ordered a new one.....I won't drive to the store unless a gun is to my head....or I ran outta food. So, gasket replaced, tub still leaks and I'm starting to stink waiting for my bath. Well, I ended up at youtube from watching a link here on Amazon and wow...there are a ton of people showing how to fix a leaky tub. Anyway, I decided to order this OXO thingie cus its been two weeks and I'm still trying to figure this leak out and the neighbors are starting to complain about the smell. First I read all the reviews...some good some bad some written while inebriated. Lets start with my tub. It has a slight tecture to it and obviously slops at the drain. The drain is stainless steel with a two inch diamter. The leak I discovered is from the wornout gasket or plumbers putty below this drain (haven't fixed it yet).Ok, product review. I opened the package...two day shipping with Amazon Prime...side note....the shipping fees saved pays for my prime membership....way worth it unless you like waiting a weak for shipping rather than 2 days. Anyhoo, I plopped the OXO stopper down over the drain pushed the little suction cup...didn't suction...figured cuz the tectured tub so no worries. Started filling the tub and stopped at about 3 inches cold water. Looked ok then left the room. Came back 15 minutes later....all the water leaked out....dam I was p.o'ed. Well clearly I did something wrong...I mean this is OXO...been using their stuff for years and rarely did me wrong. So, I actually payed a little attention this time...the OXO drain plug has a raised circular lip that fits inside the drain...hmmm.....fits perfectly. I started the cold water again but stayed making sure nothing is wrong. The drain plug is holding a nice seal. The little suction cup actually stuck to the tub after about 2 inches of water. I stopped at three inches or so of water. No leaks....took a picture and rotated it with editing so I can remember which is which. 10 minutes later still holding although the little suction cup stopped working. I pushed it back down and it stayed. Twenty minutes later still not leaking so figured good enough and took a final picture.IMHO, I think this OXO drain plug rocks. Time to get my stinky hiney cleaned up. Peace!

4.0 out of 5 stars Gave me a whole new tub!
Reviewed in the United States on March 17, 2012
I'm so excited about this item! It's restored the bathtub feature of my shower/tub, allowing me to run baths as well as soak linens or hand wash delicates, which I used to have to do in the utility room in the basement of my building because it wasn't practical to do so in either tiny sink in my apartment. I truly didn't expect it to work in my tub--an ancient fixture with a drain that won't accommodate a traditional plug stopper and has proven too wide and irregularly concave for most suction or flat stoppers (I've added a photo to the product views above: the drain is 1 5/8" wide; the fixture is 3" across with a crossbar, so a plug won't fit in; the uneven surface surrounding the drain is roughly 4" across). Even after reading all the reviews that knock the suction cup, I wouldn't have been surprised if *that* feature worked for me, but the stopper wasn't actually effective. The stopper has turned out to be beyond effective--after successfully filling the tub a couple of times for bathing and hand washing some laundry, I decided to leave the stopper in (or more accurately, on) the drain to test the seal. I marked the water line with a piece of masking tape. Four hours later, the water level hadn't dropped--somehow, the water was even still warm! Twelve hours later, the masking tape had come unstuck in the damp air and was floating in the tub, which still looked as full as I'd left it.

I'm giving this item four stars instead of five because, as other reviewers have written, the suction cup just doesn't work. I've tried attaching it to different surfaces: my ceramic tub; the porcelain bathroom sink; a couple of different mirrors; the inside of the medicine cabinet (aluminum, maybe?); my refrigerator door; and the sides of my metal kitchen sink. In nearly all of those cases, it clung at first, but I'd come back 4-8 hours later to find it had fallen. Though it would make the stopper even more handy, I don't really require the suction cup, and since the product might actually be more effective without it (the suction cup tab lifts the edge of the stopper ever so slightly, which could create a weaker seal and makes it easier for little feet--or grown-up feet--to kick the stopper out of place), wouldn't it be better to go without it? Or to punch a hole in that tab instead of attaching a suction cup, creating a hook and allowing the stopper to lie completely flat?
