Editorial Reviews
Vinyl LP repressing of this 1992 album, released to coincide with the album's 20th Anniversary. Pi*ed off and angry is the best way to describe Rage Against the Machine's first album. A fierce mix of hip-hop, punk & heavy rock exploded all over the music scene in 1992. At first sight an unlikely band; Tom Morello, a nerdy guitar hero who played his guitar like a DJ, political activist Zack de la Rocha who spitted out his lyrics with a vengeance. Together with Brad Wilk on drums and Tim C. on bass they produced one of the most angry records of 90's. The album even contained, dare we say it, hit singles like 'Killing in the name of' and 'Bullet in the head'. Put the needle on the record and get blown away (again)!

Akin to some of my other reviews, there is not much I can say that has not already been said by other reviewers. I very much agree that the lyrics, while full of blunt and pure anger, are very passionate and well-written in the sense that they actually stand for something. I have always liked to describe these guys as a 1990s Rap/Rock version of The Clash, in terms of the politically-driven meaning of their lyrics. Also, I do not tie these guys into the trend-laden nu-metal scene. RATM are their own act entirely, and they are truly original in their ways.
Regarding the instumentation, I can say that the bass guitar, wielded by the mighty Tim Commerford, is the part that really stands out the most, and that is something that cannot really be said for too many other bands out there. His licks just blow me away every single time I put this album on. What I also love about RATM is, despite the fact that they are strongly hip-hop oriented, they never make use of DJs, drum machines, turntables or any of that other computerized wankery, unlike others such as Linkin Park or Skipknot. RATM compose their music with 100% REAL INSTRUMENTS - PROPS to them for that!
All in all, if you like a good rap/rock combo that takes an aggressive political stand, then please do not hesitate to pick up this album without delay. It is a classic, no matter which way you look at it!

Cinco estrelas.
Ao fim, superada a única decepção quanto a planicidade do disco, o resto é cinco estrelas.
