Great starter bike, but you get what you pay for

Great starter bike, but you get what you pay for
I bought this for my stepson's birthday. He's 6 and quite tall. It seems to fit him well and the quality is decent for a starter bike.Assembly was easy for me with little need to reference the instructions, but then I'm fairly good with mechanical things. The instructions are generic and apply to a range of models from this manufacturer, so they might not be specific enough for some. Tools required were an adjustable wrench, a Phillips screwdriver, and a set of metric Allen wrenches. It requires an H6 for the handlebars and an H5 for the seat. The bike is fairly light for a steel framed model. This means it uses thinner tubing and I have doubts about how much abuse it will take. Given that my stepson is only 6 and somewhat timid when it comes to riding, I don't expect it to be an issue for us.It has rim brakes on both wheels that don't seem to grip especially well. For a light rider and once they're broken in, I expect they'll be fine. There are no quick release adjustments on this bike, but that's not entirely surprising on a bike at this price point. Just keep a set of metric Allen wrenches handy.I also like how the pegs tend to protect the bike from drop damage.Overall, it seems like a great starter bike, but it's not as easy to adjust as some. It also is of lower quality than some, but I don't see that as an issue for its intended use.

5.0 out of 5 stars No Drama.
Reviewed in the United States on December 6, 2018
For my 14 yo boy, 220lbs. He loves it. The bike came in heavy double card board boxes. There was a small scratch on the frame, easily covered with black nail polish. No other damage. No problems with putting the front wheel on. No problems with anything structural.
We did choose to customize it a bit.
Took off all of the stickers. Super easy.
We put on a new, wider seat.
Took the handle bars off and painted them black(they are grey to start)
Painted the bracket that holds the handle bars gold.
Replaced the grips with gold and black grips to match the rest of the bike.
And added some led bike wheel lights.
Total cost was about $225. Here’s the why, My kid is big and the options for bmx bikes for bigger kids is this or much more expensive bikes. Now he has a bike he feels is “totally custom”. lol

Reviewed in the United States on June 6, 2021
Im 50 and have ridden bmx since I was 5. Anyone who knows anything about bmx at all knows nothing is good for under $400. However I got this Tony Hawk bike for under $200, that being said.... I changed the handlebars, tires, pedals, seat and grips and took off the brakes and painted the frame For a total of around $350 bike and upgrades included. I ride this almost everyday at the park or dirt jumps and so far no problems so far except a slightly bent fork (will replace with chromoly soon. All in all I cant complain since it is a very very cheap 24" bmx
