The Best I've Found! Great for SCD Diet Yogurt!
I use this starter with a Yogourmet Yogurt Maker, it gives me the best results. I use a half gallon of half & half and use the fermenting container that came with the yogurt maker. I've only had one batch go bad, and I know why. 99.99% of the time, I'll hand wash the containers BEFORE putting them into the dishwasher. The heat and steam sterilize the container. The only time my batch was bad was when I only hand washed the container. I used to pre-heat the half & half, but quit doing that. Now I just add one full packet to my container, then add in about 1/3rd of the half & half. I'll let it sit for about 30 mins and most of the starter has dissolved on its own. If not I'll stir it up a bit then add the rest of the half & half. Then I ferment it for 24 hours (per SCD recommendations). My yogurt comes out very thick and I don't have to do anything extra or special (see pic with spoon standing straight up). I do add a paper towel or two to the top of the container once done fermenting to soak up the water on top as its cooling in the fridge. Yogurt is usually chilled and ready to eat in 8 hours give or take. This has been my go to yogurt starter for almost 4 years and except for the one time, no issues. To me, the taste is fine. It might be a bit tart to some, but that doesn't bother me. This is not store bought style yogurt. No sugar and additives, just plain goodness. If you've never had true homemade yogurt, you'll have to adjust your taste compared to the sweet, desert like, store bought stuff. I'll add my yogurt to food that I cook, and I make a cocktail sauce for dipping shrimp (add some Tabasco sauce or Frank's Red Hot to your yogurt in a small bowl and stir it up). When I'm eating very spicy food, I'll keep a small bowl on the side for dipping meat or veggies in it. DELICIOUS!!! I've also put some dark chocolate syrup on top and it's almost like a desert.I ordered 3 of the 3 box pack. You get 3 packets in one box. Each packet can be used at once or split in half to make smaller batches. To make a half gallon, you would use one entire full packet. So, one box would give you 3 half gallon batches of yogurt, or 6 smaller 1 quart batches. Either way, you get the same amount. Depends on the size of your yogurt maker's fermenting container. Shipping was quick and I loved how each 3 box unit was wrapped and sealed. The expiration date is well into 2020, but I'll make enough yogurt to need a reorder by May/June 2019 (I eat this everyday).Curious about this starter and SCD Diet yogurt? Plenty of good resources on the web to check out. Hopefully this review was helpful to you.Be Well, E...
