Fixed the P0031 CEL in my WRX. Easy DIY install
    5 Stars
Fixed the P0031 CEL in my WRX. Easy DIY install
Fit perfect in my 2004 Subaru WRX. Straight forward and pretty easy install. I've had the check engine light on for a few years, but I assumed it was a minor issue related to the turbo-back exhaust I installed so I didn't pay it much mind. When I recently checked the CEL with the Torque android app, I found out it was P0031, and it was an issue with the front o2 sensor. I double checked it by testing the resistance between the two black wires on the sensor harness, and my meter couldn't get a reading. So I ordered this sensor and it came in an original looking Denso box. I was a bit concerned that there was no pack of anti-seize included like I's seen others come with online, but there was a small amount already applied to the threads under the plastic cap. Like I said, the install went smoothly. Accessed the sensor through the passenger wheel well. Had to use a breaker bar to crack the old one loose, but it came out easy. I was expecting a fight with the 13 year old exhaust manifold. Make sure you try and not damage the old clips that hold the sensor wire to the bracket. It's important to keep the wires away from the hot exhaust so they don't melt. If you break the clips, try and use some zip ties. Replacing the sensor got rid of the CEL right way. It's weird not seeing that yellow light on my gauge cluster anymore after all these years. Hopefully I see better gas mileage now because I was running rich all this time due to the ECU guessing on the AFR. Now lets' see how long this sensor lasts :)
