Works with 60 foot hand-dug well, about 72 feet of head.
Put in trash can filled with water to test. Manufacturer recommended an extra check valve. Had a problem with air lock when trying to use a 1.25" check valve. Pump didn't want to prime with that check valve in place. When filled with water from the top, then check valve put back on, it worked fine, but decided to leave it off because if the pump goes dry then how is it going to prime itself? We have an old hand-dug well, it isn't like the pump will be under a lot of water, enough to prime the pump. Anyway it has a built-in check valve (i think) and seems to work fine without the extra one. I may put a check valve near the top of the well. As the headline says, I'm using a storage tank setup, not feeding this pump directly into a pressure tank. The wire attached to this pump seems to be of rather thin gauge, maybe 16 or 18 or 20, but I'm not an electrical engineer. This may create a mismatch when trying to choose butt connectors for your well wire. I used the supplied connectors, and removed some of the copper wires from my well wire ends. I got the optional "pump saver" control box that goes with this pump. I hope this setup lasts a while, but since I'm now using a hand winch / 1" poly tubing setup, pulling the well is trivial, only takes a few hours total.
