One annoyance is the dimmer slider setting drifts downwards when the light is turned off. If you like a bright room, you have to keep pushing it back up each time the light is turned on. Green, I suppose but annoying.
The switch operates very smoothly and works really well. You can adjust the minimum brightness level and it has a green LED light inside that glows very dimly when the switch is off so you can easily find it. That LED has an on/off switch on the front of the dimmer if you don't want to use it, though it is under the light plate, so you can't change the setting without removing that.
I definitely recommend this switch if you want a toggle dimmer that works with Philips Ultra Definition Warm Glow bulbs.
The 3 wires coming out of this require wire “nuts” to connect them to your electrical wires. That takes up space and only one of the switch boxes I wanted to use them in had the space. The Leviton TSL06-1LW (Amazon also carries) has the classic side screws that are on general light switches and might be abetter choice assuming the electrical parameters meet your need.
Long Story:
Spent a lot of time trying to fit the wires with wire nuts into the various switch boxes that included an antique metal box.
The only one that it actually fit in was the one the electrician (my son) said was a “deep box” that had more space. It actually fit in that one because it already had wire nuts connecting other things that the wires from the switch could be added to.
So check out how much space you have in the switch box before getting this verison with the wires.
Unless your OK with putting in larger switch boxes if needed.
The images are taken on a inch graph space so you get a better idea of just how much bigger these switches are. The actual dimensions re in the product description.
Don’t know about weather they get hot yet.
As far as the humming my son says he can hear it but I am a “senior” and it may be the first plus to not hearing things. Haha
