Initial setup was very very simple but I quickly found a long list of limitations.
With so many things to complain about, why 4 stars? First it uses WD Red drives. Build quality seems good. It just works, with minimal technical knowledge required. As close to plug-and-play as I'd expect something like this to be. Uses the online WD website as a gateway which is much better than punching holes through my router's security. Attractive and easy to use web interface. Good price because mine was one that was used. I took one star away because I really wanted it to be able to automatically sync a few folders from my desktop.
A few uncategorized comments: Device only has Raid 1 (mirrored/half tb capacity) or what they call JBOD which is more like internally spanned drive configuration, possibly a Raid 0 type setup, but who knows. Switching requires a complete wipe of stored files. Can backup Google Drive if I allow WD App/Device access to my Google Account. Can share files with links for other people to access over internet. Cannot automatically sync local files from desktop pc. Use router DHCP to assign specific local IP if access to Public folder is desired. This Public folder is a non-password-protected Samba network share anyone on LAN has access to.
It turned out to be harder than I expected. An external 16 TB USB drive didn't work. With the appropriate adaptors, it can indeed be plugged in to the iPhone and recognized by the Files app (after reformatting as exFAT), but the iPhone is unable to read or write it.
This MyCloud drive worked perfectly, right out of the box. I bought one for myself as well as my sister. You will need a spare wired ethernet port. (If you don't have one, a network switch like the Netgear GS208 might be a good purchase.) I plugged the MyCloud drive into my network, set up an account and installed the MyCloud app on my iPad, iPhone, and Windows PC, and now all of those have a shared 8 TB network disk where they can share stuff.

El vendedor es muy amable y responde rápido
So I unpacked it and hooked it up and the setup was so easy that within 5 minutes of powering it on, it was all ready to go and running.....I could not believe that I had actually set up a cloud media server in less than 5 minutes and had access to it from all my mobile and desktop devices, so a huge thumbs up to western digital for their great software setup...Excellent job!.
The system comes with a whole host of utilities such as PLEX (free membership for 3 months), auto backup of your mobile and desktop devices and also mirror copying most popular social media media folders and files, such as your accounts at facebook, instagram, google drive, google photos etc (I am guessing that similar utilities are also available with their iOS machines and mobiles, so securing your social media stuff without even having to re organize them is a breeze....Then it came to testing the speed and I am lost as to why the 1 star reviews had so much visceral WHINING about the speed because I have my WD NAS drive connected to my cable router with the Ethernet Gigabit cable that came with it and I have a very fast connection (400Mps download and a 25Mbs Upload which is pretty decent for a residential cable).
I find backing up large MP4 Video file MUCH MUCH FASTER on WIFI connected devices than uploading to Google Drive and Google Photos.
Then of course we did tests on sharing videos simultaneously among 6 family members from across the continent on different WIFI networks and not a single one complained about the "speed" of the download (or streaming) while we all watched the same video on the drive, simultaneously....It can't get better than that.
Honestly, if I could give this thing 20 stars, I would...Great product, easy to setup and maintain at an incredibly reasonable price....What more do you need exactly? 5 Star , bumper to bumper

1. Does not work without an internet connection. Why the hell on earth do I need drive to be online, signed in, to access local content??. WD has gone too far in it's hunger for user data.
2. Plex in it's worst form ever. It is a headache to use this app on this device. Everytime I boot up, have to scan all the media again to show it up????
I have given up on it and turning to olx to get rid of it
