I got this up and running on 10/14/2023, so it's only been in use for a few days. Ask me in a year and I'll tell you how it's doing. If this review is still up, that probably means that it's still good. For now, here are some tips and tricks that might help somebody thinking about buying this inverter.
#1. I have a split phase system in my house, so I got two of these units and I put a sensor on each phase of the system. I happened to have installed a 50 amp NEMA 14-50 outlet in my garage for a future car charger. So I picked up a 50 amp NEMA 14-50 splitter and plugged one of these units into each side of the two phases. The sensors were easy to install and the only frustrating part was routing the wires to the inverters. You have to make sure that the sensor and the inverter are both on the same phase. Some people have mentioned that the sensor was labeled backward and I think I know what happened: If you install the sensor correctly on one phase and plug the inverter into the other phase, two bad things happen. A) It will read a negative number. B) The inverter won't limit itself correctly because it is regulating itself on the wrong phase. This is a user error - not the fault of the product. Additional note: If you hook this up to both phases - 240 volts - there is nowhere that you could put the monitor to accurately limit the current. The monitor can only clip to one of the two phases, but you would be feeding energy into both phases. I have no idea what would happen, but it probably wouldn't be good.
#2. After a few days, I quickly realized that I was consistently producing more electricity than I could use without back feeding into the grid. So I decided to switch things up. I ordered a set of 12 volt lithium ion batteries to wire in series to create a 48V battery bank. Then I ordered a MPPT solar battery charger. Next I will charge the batteries with the panels and then I will feed the batteries into this inverter. What this does ... I can hook my panels in series (instead of in parallel) and capitalize on the MPPT charger's 150 volt capacity, meaning I can use smaller wires for greater distances and generate more electricity in low light conditions. I can also leverage this inverter's smaller capacity over a longer period of time. Specifically, I can hook up to 2,880 watts worth of panels to the particular MPPT charger that I bought (not this device). That's 3 times the sustainable capacity of this 900 watt inverter. Then the batteries can feed the electricity back into this inverter at a slower rate ... say limited to 400 watts while also being limited by my house's usage. This lets the inverter work at a sustainable, steady rate while not wasting any of the energy that the panels can produce in the middle of the day - when my usage is at its lowest point of the day. This unit can easily be programmed to shut off when my batteries hit (for example) 20% or 50% of capacity so that I can also maximize the number of charge / discharge cycles for the batteries. (This inverter allows you to specify a cut-off voltage for the batteries and the manual for the batteries that I purchased specifies what the batteries' voltage is at various states of charge, so you just set the cut-off voltage at whatever state of charge you want to maintain.)
All in all, I am impressed with the functionality and versatility. So far, I have not seen any unusual behavior. The fans spin up as the panels hit the peak of their generation and then they quiet down when the sun starts to sink. They are out in the garage, so I don't care about the noise. As others have said, the LCD is TINY and hard to read - they should give you a magnifying glass! People have commented that the LCD doesn't last if you leave it on all the time, but the auto shut off is VERY short. You should be able to specify the length of time for the auto-off, but you can't. It's either very short, or it's on all the time and burns out. The last con that I have found is that there is no easy way to fix it if you do happen to put the sensor on upside down. It would be nice if the machine would just auto sense and fix it - or if there was a way to just reverse the polarity on the plug. I also noted that the two phases in my home are nowhere near equal. One phase sees way more usage than the other phase does, so if you are only going to install one of these units on only one phase, you may want to hook up the monitor to each phase to see which one sees the most usage. I also wish that it had built-in wifi for monitoring. I ordered the adapters, but they haven't arrived yet. It would be nice if that functionality was built-in - but at least it is available.
This machine really is pretty astonishing. If it has the longevity to hold up for years to come, I will count it as a very valuable asset. If the units don't last, you will be the first to hear about it, because I will be on here changing my review so fast it will make your head spin. I have no tolerance for poorly designed junk. I am amazed that it can regulate itself continually to match my house's electrical usage while also figuring out how to manage the solar panels to compensate. It also looks nice and professional hanging on my wall. I keep going out to the garage to check on it because it is so fun to see it working. It arrived nicely packaged and undamaged.
For those interested, here is a list of the additional items that I procured to make this go smoothly: #1. Solar Panels & Mounts. #2. Appropriately gauged solar wire. #3. Additional solar connectors. #4. Parallel connectors. #5. Solar Disconnect Switch. #6. Ring terminals for attaching the solar wires to this inverter. #7. NEMA 14-50 splitter. #7. WiFi adapter. #8. Weatherproof cable entry. And if you decide to go the battery route: #9. Adequate batteries (hooking the batteries in series means higher voltage and smaller cables - plus this inverter requires at least 36 volts) and you will want to have adequate battery capacity to harvest what your panels can produce plus an additional percentage so that you don't run your batteries below 20%. #10. MPPT battery charger that can handle the voltage and wattage of your panels. #11. Battery disconnects for both the charger and this inverter. #12. Battery balancing equalizer. #13. An adequate number of short battery cables.
Happy Sustainability!
The display is small. Deceptively small. It's not intuitive to scroll & select, right away, but the learning curve is minimal, especially if you look at the instruction booklet.
Any bad reviews of this thing have been about the display not working after a few months; however, most probable, those users have the screen set to always-on.
Since I have a separate device [pictured] that displays the watts produced (& voltage) I don't need the screen on all the time. (only to see what the remaining draw is from the mains)
My unit is only 1000 watts, which is great, because my production is only 950ish at peak for half an hour in the day. However, when the fans kick in, it's pretty loud -- not as loud as a vacuum cleaner, but it does get annoying if you're in the same room as this inverter. They only last 15 to 90 seconds, just long enough to get cool. (and yes, it lowers the production at the same time to help cool it off quickly)
The included current transformer sensor (CT) is a little on the small side for my electrical panel, so I also purchased a pair of CT's as well: B0BCJY5LKJ. I cut their cables and wired them together, because this GTIL only has one CT input. This way I can monitor both branches of my incoming electricity. (If you notice a negative number on the usage, switch one of your CTs so the electricity flows the other way)
I will update this review if I ever encounter any problems.

2nd one is running great! Output is actually above 1000 watts which is wild to me. I’ve been running this style for a few years now and my previous max was always around 930-940 watts. I charge my 48v bank with a victron controller and that’s what this inverter is connected to. It loves the 48v much more than a 24v or 36v setup. I’ll update if anything fails. My old models weren’t Y&H brand but identical units. I like the instruction booklets that came with this although I’m already well aware how to connect them.
If you need to disconnect the inverter for any reason, make sure it’s not currently under a load. If you’re using the limiter function you can simply unplug the limiter wire so it reads zero. It’s much easier on the electronics.
Update: I reached out to the seller regarding the warranty of this product. After endless messages back and forth on what the problem is, he send me a mini bag containing lots of small pieces - I am supposed to fix this alone without any professional technician. It's very unprofessional and customer unfriendly seller- stay far far away from this product and the seller.
