I did not like the big knobs used for the brackets for attaching it to the roof rack. They sit up into the rack area and the bolts go up through the knobs so you have the bolts sticking up into the rack area where you would put stuff. There is a reason for this, and it is obviously so that it is easy to remove, but the bad part is it also would become problematic for the gear up there. So at first I reversed burst the brackets and put the knobs pointing down towards the roof. There is plenty of clearance on my roof rack set up. but I didn’t like the look of that because the bolts are 3 inches long and it looks stupid they have an inch and a half of bolts sticking down almost touching your roof. So I went up to the hardware store and purchased 5/16 inch bolts that were an inch and a half long and just replace them with those bolts and some simple locking nuts. It looks cleaner without 3 inches of bolt up there when only an inch or inch and a half is needed. Again this is no knock on the product, it is a universal mounting bracket and so it’s going to be different for every vehicle. Just for my vehicle I thought the shorter bolts would look cleaner. And now there is nothing in the way in the basket.
I spent about a month researching cargo racks, looking for one that wouldn't cost me hundreds of dollars, but not be a flimsy piece of junk, either. I settled on this one due to the price, load rating, size, and design.
After having to pick it up at a FedEx location an hour from where I live (that's a story for a different day) I got to work early, and started putting it together in the parking lot. All in all, it went together easily. It does have a noticeable gap between the two halves, which I believe to be a design flaw. I'll be sealing that with some silicone when I can and painting the entire thing before too long, to help with rust prevention. I do live in a state that gets rain 9 months out of the year, so I need to protect my investment.
Other than that, it seems to be well constructed and sturdy, and the clamps hold to the cross bars of my factory rack securely. Snugged them down, gave the rack a good shake, and the whole vehcile moved, without the rack slipping or sliding.
I've attached some pictures to show how it fits to my 2004 Rav4, and the gaps I mentioned.
